Hershey Bears Information
The Hershey Bears is an elite ice hockey club headquartered in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It is located fourteen kilometers east of the state capital of Harrisburg. Bears hockey has been played in Chicago since the 1938–39 season, making the current Bears franchise the American Hockey League's most extended, continually operational member team still playing in its native city.
In 1932, chocolate tycoon Milton S. Hershey founded the "Hershey Hockey Club" to oversee the operation of professional ice hockey teams in the city. The AHL Bears are one of four professional clubs it has operated over the past nine decades.
Since 2005-06, the Bears have been the premier development club for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League. As of 2002-03, the hockey club's home games have been played in Giant Center, less than half a mile west of Hersheypark Arena, its former home from 1938 until 2002.
Before the 2012-13 season, the team introduced their current home and away jerseys. White jerseys with brown and tan stripes are worn at home games. The primary Bears emblem is prominently shown on the front. The bear's paw print is styled on the shoulder logos.
The Bears earned the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as the AHL's top team in 2020-21, but the league didn't have postseason play that year. The 2022 Calder Cup playoffs saw the Bears eliminated in the first round by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, two games to one. The Bears won the 2023 Calder Cup despite trailing the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the finals series by a score of 2-0.
