Charlotte Thunder Information
Formerly representing the Queen City in the National Indoor Football League was a squad called the Charlotte Thunder. They competed in the AAL and called the Bojangles' Coliseum their home court. Co-owned by Daniel Rudmann and head coach Ervin Bryson, the Carolina Energy debuted in 2018 under the team's original name.
After changing hands in 2020, the team is now known as the Charlotte Thunder and is owned by Ted Ginn Jr. and Thomas Davis Sr., both of whom played in the NFL. Jeff Reed and Frank Garcia, both former players, are only two of several minority owners on the team.
After the Charlotte Rage and Carolina Cobras of Arena Football and the Carolina Speed of the American Indoor Football Association, this is the fourth professional sports club to call Charlotte home. In a Facebook post dated October 21, 2022, the squad confirmed that the 2023 season will be their last.
