Yael Naim Information
Yael Naim (February 6, 1978) is a French-born Israeli singer and actress. She was born in Paris, France. In the fourth year of her life, she and her family relocated to Ramat HaSharon, Israel. She was a soloist with the Israeli Air Force Orchestra in the Israel Defense Forces.
After making her vocal debut in the musical Les Dix Commandements, she released her debut solo album, In a Man's Womb, in 2001 (recorded in Los Angeles with Kamil Rustam). In the film Harrison's Flowers, she also performed Bruno Coulais's song "You Disappear." Yael was her sole identifier in her earliest works. She also sang "Mashmauyot" with Din Din Aviv. Her cover of "Toxic" by Britney Spears also became a hit.
Naim collaborated with percussionist David Donatien to record a whole album's worth of Naim's music in her Paris apartment studio over two years. These were published on October 22, 2007, under the Tôt ou tard label as her second album, Yael Naim. The album features songs sung in French, English, and Hebrew and has been praised by critics.
Her song "New Soul" was used in the first commercial for the MacBook Air notebook, which Apple released in January 2008. The tune played at the introduction of the new laptops was chosen by Steve Jobs himself. In the United States, the song became Naim's first top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 list for the week beginning February 16, 2008, at position No. 9. This was due to the song's success in digital downloads.
