The Gryphon Trio Information
The Gryphon Trio is a classical music ensemble from Toronto, Ontario, which was formed by members from the Faculty of Music of the University of Toronto in 1993. Those three members are still the current members of the trio named Annalee Patipatanakoon (violin), Roman Borys (cello), and Jamie Parker (piano). Currently, the trio tours regularly throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
The Gryphon Trio has commissioned and premiered more than 75 new works by contemporary composers. Its fifteen recordings for Analekta include works by Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Haydn, Mozart, and Shostakovich. The trio celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2003 with a performance in Toronto. The Gryphon Trio performed extensively with the Greek-Canadian composer Christos Hatzis's multi-media composition entitled Constantinople in 2008.
Listen Up! was the pioneering community outreach project by the trio that was launched in 2010 in Almonte, Ontario. It was followed by the album Broken Hearts & Madmen in September 2011. For the End of Time (2012) is another most recent recording by the trio with the Canadian clarinetist James Campbell. The Gryphon Trio has won three Juno Awards for its classical recordings released by the Analekta label and has been nominated for several.
