Take 6 Information
Take 6 is an acapella gospel group founded in 1980 and originated from Huntsville, Alabama. The music of the group is defined as vocal jazz, urban gospel, gospel, R&B, and contemporary Christian music. The current lineup of the sextet consists of Claude V. McKnight III – first tenor or first voice; Mark Kibble – first tenor or second voice; David Thomas – second tenor or fourth voice (former), third voice (today); Joey Kibble – second tenor or third voice (former), fourth voice (today); Khristian Dentley – baritone or fifth voice; and Alvin Chea – vocal bass or sixth voice.
Take 6 was formerly known as Alliance and used to perform in local churches and on the campus of Oakwood College, now Oakwood University. In 1987, they signed a contract with Warner Alliance and decided to change the name to what it is today. Take 6 released its eponymous debut album in 1988 and earned Grammy Awards in the gospel and jazz categories and three Dove Awards. The band sang on the album Back on the Block by Quincy Jones and contributed to the film Do the Right Thing.
So Much 2 Say (1990) was the second album by Take 6 followed by He Is Christmas, Join the Band, Brothers, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Beautiful World, and The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. The band released one live album entitled Tonight: Live in 2000. Some of their hit singles are 1988: "A Quiet Place." 1991: "Where Do the Children Play," 1997: "You Don't Have to Be Afraid," and 2015: "When Angels Cry."
