Sylvia Jane Hutton (December 9, 1956) is an American country-pop and country music singer and songwriter born in Kokomo, Indiana. Sylvia Jane Hutton is professionally known by her first name, “Sylvia.” She wanted to become a recording artist after admiring Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline, so she took a job as a secretary for publisher and producer Tom Collins in 1976. In 1979, Sylvia signed her first record deal with RCA Records after auditioning for Dave & Sugar. She released her first single on the label entitled “You Don’t Miss a Thing,” which hit the Country Top 40.
Sylvia released her debut album entitled “Drifter” in 1981. Her second album, “Just Sylvia,” included a notable single entitled “Nobody” that reached number 1 on the country music charts in 1982. Additionally, this single reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold over a million copies. The single and the album, “Just Sylvia,” both certified gold in Canada and the United States. “Nobody” was also the BMI song of the year in 1982. Apart from RCA Records, Sylvia has also worked with Red Pony Records.
Sylvia has released several notable studio albums thus far in her career including Snapshot (1983), Surprise (1984), One Step Closer (1985), The Real Story (November 11, 1996), Where in the World (2002), A Cradle in Bethlehem (November 15, 2002), It’s All in the Family (October 7, 2016), and Second Bloom: The Hits Re-Imaginer (June 8, 2018).
