Shreya Ghoshal (March 12, 1984) is an Indian playback singer. One of India's most prolific and well-known singers, Ghoshal is renowned for her impressive vocal range and adaptability. She has won numerous awards for her work as a singer and songwriter, including seven Filmfare Awards, five National Film Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, four Kerala State Film Awards, two BFJA Awards, and ten Filmfare Awards South.
Ghoshal's musical training began when she was four years old. She began her formal study of classical music at age six. At age sixteen, she won the singing competition Sa Re Ga Ma on television, attracting the attention of the famous director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
In the wake of that success, she made her Bollywood playback singing debut in Bhansali's romantic drama Devdas (2002), for which she won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer.
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland declared June 26, 2010, "Shreya Ghoshal Day" to recognize Ghoshal's contributions to the state beyond playback singing. Selected British House of Commons members honored her in London in April 2013. She has made Forbes' list of India's 100 most famous people five times.
In the last months of 2022, Ghoshal released the duet and lullaby versions of "Jo Tum Saath Ho" from the film Salaam Venky, as well as "Sukh Kalale" from the Marathi film Ved, for which she was nominated for a Marathi Filmfare.
