Seu Jorge Information
Jorge Mario da Silva (June 8, 1970) is a Brazilian actor, musical artist, and songwriter. He is professionally known as Seu Jorge. Seu Jorge is well-known for his film roles and his contributions to their soundtracks. In 2002, he starred as Mané Galinha in Fernando Meirelles and Katia Lund's critically acclaimed film City of God. In 2003, he played Pelé dos Santos in Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, for which he also provided much of the soundtrack by performing Portuguese language cover versions of David Bowie classics.
In 2011, he worked with Beck on the "Tropicália" Mario C. remix for the Red Hot Organization's latest philanthropic album, "Red Hot+Rio 2." Together with American fashion designer Rachel Roy in 2012, he released a collection of athletic wear, shoes, accessories, and bags. He received a nomination for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album at the 16th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in 2015.
At the opening ceremony for the 2016 Summer Paralympics on September 8 in Rio de Janeiro, he performed after the cauldron was lit. A DNA analysis revealed that Seu Jorge is 85% African, 13% European, and 2% Amerindian. His membership in haplogroup R1b indicates that his father's family hails from Western Europe. Jorge has a small part in Wes Anderson's Asteroid City, released in 2023.
