Osunlade Information
Osunlade (March 13, 1969) is an American music producer and musician. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri. During the late '80s and '90s, he was Sesame Street's resident composer. Later, he relocated to the Los Angeles area and collaborated with the likes of Patti LaBelle and Freddie Jackson.
After some time, he relocated to New York, establishing Yoruba Records out of "the continued need to create the music I wanted." Roy Ayers, Nkemdi, Salif Keita, Porangu, and Cesária Évora are just a few of the musicians he has collaborated with. Aquarian Moon was his first release in 2006, followed by Elements Beyond in 2007 (both on the newly active Strictly Rhythm Records) and Passage in 2009.
He serves as an Ifá (Yoruba religious ceremony) priest. The record label name, album artwork, and song titles like "Obatala y Oduduwa" and "Yemeya" all highlight Osunlade's spiritual connection to Yoruba traditions, from which his music draws inspiration.
