Mikayla Victoria Simpson (February 16, 2000) is a Jamaican reggae singer, guitarist, rapper, and songwriter. She was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica. She uses the stage name Koffee in the music industry. She started writing lyrics at age 12 after being inspired by reggae artist Protoje, began singing in her church choir, and taught herself guitar using an instrument loaned from a friend. She got her high school education from Ardenne in Kingston, Jamaica.
She won the 2016 Ardenne High School talent contest in Kingston, Jamaica, without realizing that her informal presentation in the school cafeteria had been an audition. She joined the high school chorus and studied vocal technique and music theory. When Koffee was a senior in high school, she shared the stage with other talented students and performed in front of an audience of around a thousand people at the school's annual talent show. According to her, the experience on the show was the catalyst that finally gave her the courage to share her music with an audience.
Koffee shot to fame after posting a video of herself singing on Instagram. Released in 2017, "Legend" features only her voice and an acoustic guitar. The song, written as a homage to Usain Bolt, went viral after Bolt shared it on his Instagram account. Her songs are informed by the brutality and societal issues she witnessed as a child, and she has named Protoje, Chronixx, Super Cat, and Giggs as musical influences.
