Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr. is an American actor, vocalist, pianist, composer, and former television presenter born in New Orleans, Louisiana. His record sales have surpassed 30 million as of 2019. The Recording Industry Association of America ranks Connick in the top 60 best-selling male artists in the U.S., with 16 million certified sales.
He has amassed more No. 1 albums than any other artist in the history of the U.S. jazz chart as of 2009, with seven albums that peaked at No. 1 in the country and ten albums that reached No. 2. Playing the role of a tail gunner in the WWII film Memphis Belle (1990) was Connick's acting debut.
His breakout role was as a jet pilot in the 1996 movie Independence Day, after his 1995 role as a serial murderer in Copycat. With Sandra Bullock, Connick made his acting debut in the 1998 film Hope Floats. Another animated cult hit, The Iron Giant (1999), included his voice.
Alongside Taraji P. Henson's villainous Miss Hannigan, Harry joined Annie Live! ensemble as Sir Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks. The original soundtrack of the NBC television event, Annie Live! Cast Album was released on the same day the live show aired on December 2, 2021. Seven Network, an Australian television network, announced on September 28, 2022 that Harry Connick Jr. acted as a judge in the 2023 season of Australian Idol.
