Many of today's most popular Cuban musicians have performed at the Global Cuba Fest, including Alfredo Rodriguez, Jorge Luis Pacheco, and Carlos Averhoff Jr. Well-known for his work in jazz, Alfredo Rodriguez is also a songwriter. In 1985, he began his vocation as a musician. Though he'd been interested in jazz ever since he was a small boy, his passion took off when he entered and placed highly in the 2003 JoJazz competition for young jazz musicians.
To date, he has released well over five studio recordings since 2012. Tocororo (2016), awarded four out of five stars by The Irish Times, was arguably his most effective work. His album's central concept recounts his escape from Cuba to pursue the American ideal. Many reviewers have compared his sound to that of Bill Evans, Fred Hersch, and Kenny Werner. Soulful improvisation and classical instruction are the foundations upon which Jorge Luis Pacheco builds his jazz music.
He started in Havana, Cuba, but now he's traveled the globe playing in some of the best concert halls. He has performed at such prestigious venues as New York's Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola in the Jazz at Lincoln Center and Washington, DC's Kennedy Center. Among his many honors is the Jury Award from the Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition in Switzerland in 2014. Carlos Averhoff Jr., a saxophonist from Cuba who leads two different groups, is another performer you will want to attend at the event.
