Fortunate Youth Information
Fortunate Youth is a reggae-rock sextet founded in 2009 and originated from Hermosa Beach, California. The group’s music is classified as reggae, reggae rock, and roots reggae. The group’s current lineup consists of Jered Draskovich (keys/bass), Dan Kelly (vocals), Travis “Travi Bongo” Walpole (percussion), Greg Gelb (bass, guitar), Revelation (drums), and Corey Draskovich (bass, guitar, keys). The band members share their influences: Katchafire, Van Morrison, Bob Marley, and The Grateful Dead.
“Up-Lifted” was the first EP by Fortunate Youth that was released on January 8, 2010. It has a song named “Burn One,” which remains the top downloaded song by the group thus far on iTunes Music. The EP was followed by their debut album entitled “Irie State of Mind” in 2011. The album was released at number 2 on the iTunes reggae charts and number 13 on Billboard’s Top 100 Reggae Chart. In 2012, the band toured with The Expendables and Tribal Seeds.
Some of the other notable studio albums by Fortunate Youth are Mooboogie Loft Sessions (2012), It’s All A Jam (2013), Don’t Think Twice (2015), and Fortunate Youth (2017). Dub Collections, Volume One (EP) (2014), Dub Collections, Volume Two (EP) 2016), and Live Life (EP) (2019) are the other three extended plays by the band. Fortunate Youth has held an annual Thanksgiving concert show as a tribute to their city since 2011 at Hermosa Beach’s venue Saint Rocke.
