Daby Touré spent his childhood in the cities of Boutilimit and Nouakchott and the region of Casmance before moving in with an uncle in the little town of Djeole, located not far from the town of Kaedi on the banks of the Senegal River. Daby's parents had separated, and his dad couldn't have the public perception of being a single parent. Daby was exposed to the Toucouleur and Wolof cultures in Djeole, in addition to his own Soninke heritage. He mastered the art of farming and raising animals. When I was young, life in the village was safe.
Daby eventually returned to Nouakchott, the capital, to be with his father. After a long shift at the hospital, Hamidou would unwind by jamming with his pals. Daby's father didn't want him to get any wild ideas about becoming a musician. Therefore, he would keep his son from coming into contact with the instruments. But he managed to sneak in some practice time and teach himself the fundamentals.
Thanks to radio, pirated cassettes, and the rare TV transmission, he also began experiencing the exotic delights of Western pop music. Strong formative inspirations were bands like The Police, Dire Straits, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. Daby's father was adamant that his son should not pursue a music career even though he was becoming increasingly fascinated with and hungry for music.
