Carrie Newcomer is an author, musician, singer, and songwriter from Dowagiac, Michigan. Her sound is defined as folk, Americana, and world music. Newcomer has produced 16 solo CDs with her first solo album being Visions and Dreams, originally released on Windchime records. Twelve additional albums were released between 1993-2010, on Philo/Rounder. Her music is highly influenced by various causes, collaborations, activities, and philosophies.
Some of Newcomer's notable solo CDs include 1995 The Bird or the Wing, 1999 Bare to the Bone [Live], 2005 Regulars and Refugees, 2010 Before & After, 2012 Kindred Spirits: A collection, 2016 The Beautiful Not Yet, 2017 Live at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, and 2019 The Point of Arrival. She collaborated with a range of musicians in performances and recordings, such as writing Sounds of the Morning for The Battle of Tippecanoe Outdoor Drama. Newcomer has also collaborated with Jim Wallis, the author of the New York Times best-selling book entitled “God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong, and the Left Doesn't Get It.”
Carrie Newcomer has toured the United States, Africa, India, and Europe while performing with American singer-songwriter David Wilcox, Alison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and many more. As an author, she has written 2016 Carrie Newcomer The Beautiful Not Yet Poems, Essays, and Lyrics and 2014's A Permeable Life by Carrie Newcomer.
Newcomer also released 1987 October Nights LP and 1984 Long Fields LP and three DVDs; 2008 Wilderness Plots Songs and Stories of the Prairie, and 2005 A Festival of Friends WFYI Public Television Broadcast.
