Bruce Randall Hornsby (November 23, 1954) is a pianist, singer, and songwriter born in Williamsburg, Virginia. His songs incorporate elements of blues, folk, country, rock, jam band, folk, bluegrass, and folk music from the South. Bruce Hornsby and the Range took up the Best New Artist Grammy in 1987, Best Bluegrass Recording in 1990, and Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1994, all from Hornsby's impressive discography.
Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, his bluegrass duo with Ricky Skaggs, and other session and guest musicians featured Hornsby's talents. He joined the Grateful Dead in September 1990 and toured with them until March 1992, performing in over a hundred performances. 'Flicted,' his 23rd studio album, came out in May 2022.
Bruce appeared in Portsmouth, Virginia, on July 3, 2023, as part of The Doobie Brothers' extended 50th anniversary tour. He played keyboards and soloed on many songs. As part of their Goosemas tour, Bruce played a piano rendition of "The Way It Is" in Hampton, Virginia, on December 9, 2023.
