Angelique Kidjo Information
Angélique Kidjo (July 14, 1960) is a Beninese-French actress, activist, singer, and songwriter. She got her start singing in the school band Les Sphinx and had radio success when she was a teenager doing a cover of "Les Trois Z" by Miriam Makeba. On the album Pretty, Kidjo collaborated with Oscar, Kidjo's brother, and Cameroonian producer Ekambi Brilliant. It included her songs "Ninive" and "Gbe Agossi" and an homage to Bella Bellow, a vocalist who inspired her.
Released on June 18, 2021, was the album Mother Nature. Many young African producers and singers have contributed to it, including Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Mr. Eazi, Zeynab, Shungudzo, Sampa The Great, Rexxie, Salif Keita, a legend in Africa, and Matthieu Chedid, a French vocalist. "Dignity," "Africa," "One of a Kind," and "Mother Nature"—all of which feature Sting—have music videos that have been released.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony on July 23, 2021, Kidjo, John Legend, Keith Urban, and Alejandro Sanz sang a rendition of "Imagine" by Hans Zimmer. Kidjo had a performance at the opening ceremony of the 2020 Expo in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on September 30, 2021. Kidjo made an appearance in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 16, 2021, as part of the Geneva Camerata's performance of David Greilsammer's Concert Prestige n.2, which featured arrangements by Jonathan Keren and drumming by Francesco Ciniglio.
