Amjad Ali Khan Information
Khan's first American performance was in 1963, and he and his sons were performing there well into the 2000s. Throughout his career, he has constantly tinkered with his instrument, looking for new sounds and techniques. Khan has held positions as a visiting professor at the University of New Mexico and a Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra member. The album Everything is Everywhere by Carrie Newcomer, released in 2011, featured his contributions. In 2014, he participated in the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, performing 'Raga For Peace' with his sons, Ayaan Ali Khan and Amaan Ali Khan.
The 21st Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award went to Khan. Khan has been honored with multiple Padma awards, including the 1975 Padma Shri, the 1991 Padma Bhushan, and the 2001 Padma Vibhushan, as well as the 1989 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the 2011 Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship. In 2004, he was honored with the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize. On April 20, 1984, Massachusetts officially recognized Amjad Ali Khan Day.
Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2007, Houston, and Nashville, in 1997, made Khan an honorary citizen. The Banga-Vibhushan was awarded to him in 2011. The Indian documentary Ustad Amjad Ali Khan (1990), directed by Gulzar and focusing on the life of Amjad Ali Khan, was named the year's best by the Filmfare Awards.
