Adekunle Gold (January 28, 1987) is a Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter. He was born in Lagos State, Nigeria. Adekunle's early exposure to the music of King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey piqued his interest in music. At the age of 15, he wrote his first song, and by the time he was a teenager, he had joined the church's junior choir. After forming a band with a classmate in high school, Adekunle decided to pursue music independently in 2014.
After sharing a Photoshopped photo of himself cuddling Tiwa Savage, he became known as the "King of Photoshop" among his followers. Released on December 19, 2014, "Sade" covered "Story of My Life" by One Direction. The song received numerous nominations at The Headies 2015, including Best Alternative Song. Gold signed a recording contract with YBNL Nation in March, shortly after the release of "Sade," on May 1, 2015, the label released his first official song, "Orente."
In 2015, at the City People Entertainment Awards, he was nominated for Most Promising Act of the Year. Gold, the self-titled debut studio album by Adekunle Gold, was unveiled along with its cover and track listing on July 18, 2016. The album features the musical production talents of Pheelz, B Banks, Masterkraft, Sleekamo, Oscar, and Seyikeyz across its sixteen tracks. It was released on July 25, three days earlier than expected.
