Colorado Ballet, a non-profit organization, founded in 1961 by Lillian Covillo and Freidann Parker, has been performing world-class classical ballet and modern dance in Denver for nearly 60 years. More than 50 classical and contemporary ballet productions are performed each year by Colorado Ballet's 31 professional Company dancers and 21 Studio Company dancers. The Colorado Ballet Academy is the state's finest ballet school, training children from the age of one and a half through adulthood at all levels, from beginning to pre-professional. Through Colorado Ballet's great education and community involvement initiatives, thousands can experience the enchantment of dancing.
When Artistic Director Gil Boggs and his staff are in charge of Colorado Ballet, they produce a diverse repertory that includes everything from neoclassical masterpieces to cutting-edge contemporary works, as well as full-length stories and full-length repertory works.
At the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, the Colorado Ballet Orchestra provides live music for all productions on stage. Attitude to Santa Fe shows, which showcase new ballets produced and performed by Colorado Ballet's dancers, also foster the development of new works. Since 1961, the Colorado Ballet has performed The Nutcracker for Denver audiences.
