Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre is an open concert venue adjacent to the beautiful garden that outstretches on eastern foothills of the Wasatch Range above the campus of the University of Utah. It is located at 2155 Red Butte Canyon Road, Salt Lake City, Utah. Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre has a seating capacity of approximately 3,000. It is built as an expansion of Red Butte Garden and Arboretum, which first opened to the general public in 1985. Red Butte Amphitheatre added as an expansion was itself opened in the year 1990-1991. Currently, it is owned and operated by the University of Utah. Paul Brown designed its beautiful architecture of the venue co-relating with the garden.
Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre can accommodate bigger crowds, higher-profile concerts, and performances. Another attraction to the amphitheater is the mountains and beautiful garden views. The garden is the most extensive botanical garden in Utah State.
Utah Symphony was the first to perform at Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre. Alison Krauss, Union Station, Joan Baez, John Prine, Chris Mautz, B.B. King, John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, Bruce Hornsby, Indigo Girls, Norah Jones, Ralph Stanley, Wyton Marsalis, Wilco, Bonnie Raitt, Death Cab for Cutie, and David Byrne are some of the famous singers and bands that stole the show at Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre.
