The North Shore Center is a dynamic two-theater complex that operates as a venue for performing arts in Skokie, on Chicago’s North Shore. The venue opened for the public in November 1996. It functions as part of the Village of Skokie’s plan to provide literary, cultural, and educational programs. This is done with a mission of benefiting the citizens and neighboring North Shore communities. The facility has a seating capacity of 867, with the main stage convertible to a 318-seat theater. Boston architect Graham Gund designed the architecture of the building. The venue hosts performances as well as corporate, social, and community events. The Center is best known for presenting a feature series of entertainment that spans many styles and genres for an educational performing arts program.
The North Shore Center is proud to host a long list of performances by leading Chicago area performing arts organizations. The Center is managed by Professional Facilities Management, Inc. and serves as the home to Northlight Theatre. In addition, the facility features an 8,000 square foot grand lobby, along with a rehearsal hall and some conference rooms.
The North Shore Center presents the famous curriculum-based Youtheatre program. This program has provided supplemental arts education since its launch in 1980 to nearly a million Chicago area students. The Center is also famous for being adjacent to many excellent dining, hotel, and shopping options. The venue brings the best artists of the day with concerts, dance, comedy, and theater performances.
