Fulton Theatre - Lancaster PA
Treasure Island
Fulton Theatre, also known as The Fulton Opera House, is a League of Regional Theatres class B regional theater. It is located in historic downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and is known as The Fulton. The site is said to be one of the oldest working theatres in the United States. The theatre was built in 1852, and Samuel Sloan created the building's architecture along with Edwin Forrest Durang. The design of the venue follows a Victorian theme. Fulton Theatre was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964, added to NRHP on August 11, 1969, and designated PHMC on October 11, 1952.
Fulton Hall is named in honor of Robert Fulton (1765-1815), the steam engine pioneer of Lancaster County. It is one of the three theatres that are recognized as National Historic Landmarks. The other two are the Goldenrod Showboat in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. The first live theater production performed at the Fulton Theatre in 30 years was the 1959 production of Our Town.
The theatre serves as a home to six mainstage productions per year. This includes previous productions of Disney's Newsies, Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, four family series productions (Fulton's own 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, Jack and the Beanstalk, the Musical, and Aladdin), along with other riveting productions like Venus in Fur.
