The Rialto Square Theatre is located at East Van Buren Street, Joliet, Illinois. The venue was open to the general public in the year 1926. The theatre has a seating capacity of 1,966 people approximately. It was initially designed as a vaudeville movie palace but now features mainly musicals, stand-up comedy, concerts, family functions, and plays. It also hosts public and private functions. Rapp and Rapp Architects designed the architecture of the Rialto Square Theatre. The venue is under the ownership of the Will County Metropolitan Exposition and Auditorium Authority. The Rialto Square Theatre has undergone renovation in the year 1978. The theater is considered as one of the 150 great places in Illinois by the American Institute of Architects.
The Rialto Square Theatre featured the production of The Evolution Of Joliet on the opening day. Lights of New York was the first talking picture that was shown at the Rialto Square Theatre on October 9, 1928. The Rialto Square Theatre was also used as the wedding site for Christopher Knight and Adrianne Curry in the final episode of My Fair Brady. The venue has served as a home to Rialto School of the Arts, an art, choir and drama, and education program for the children.
