Meyer Theatre - Green Bay WI
Theresa Caputo
The Meyer Theatre is one of the historic theaters located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was originally named the Fox Theatre, with the construction of the building finishing in 1929. It was designed in Art Deco and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture styles. The architecture of the building was done by Larsen, L.P.; Immel Construction Company. The venue officially opened for the public on February 14, 1930. The opening ceremony was celebrated with a festival that attracted more than a thousand guests, including many Fox Films officials. The theatre has a total seating capacity of 1,000.
In 1933, when Fox Theatres Inc. declared bankruptcy, the Meyer Theatre was operated until 1998 as the Bay Theatre. In 2000, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 2002, the theatre building was restored and renamed to Robert T. Meyer Theatre to honor the former Green Bay businessman. The theatre reopened in 2003 under the management of the Weidner Center for the Performing Art and underwent some major renovations in the same year. Currently, the Meyer Theatre Corporation is contracted with PMI Entertainment Group, which is responsible for handling the facility's management and the bookings.
