Mechanics Bank Theatre, formerly known as Bakersfield Civic Auditorium and Rabobank Theater, is a performing arts theatre and convention center located at 1001 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, California. The theatre has a seating capacity of around 3,000 and 27-300 classroom-style seating. It first opened to the general public in November 1962 with the opening show “Ice Capades.” The total construction cost of the venue was about $5.5 million. Rossetti Architects designed the architecture of Rabobank Theatre based on modern style. Currently, it is under the ownership of the City of Bakersfield while managed and operated by SMG. Mechanics Bank Theatre underwent expansions in the years 1980 and 1998.
Mechanics Bank Theatre is located adjacent to Mechanics Bank Arena. The theatre houses musical groups such as the Bakersfield Symphony. The venue also contains scenery loft and an Orchestra pit facilitating Broadway musicals and ballets. It hosts a variety of events such as concerts, musical events, stage shows, theatre, and many others. Nick Jr., Jackson Browne, Jeff Dunham, David Blaine, The Bachelor, Third Eye Blind, Newsboys United, Sammy Hagar, and the Circle are some of the popular artists and bands that performed at the Mechanics Bank Theatre. The theatre also hosted Paw Patrol Live, National Dog Day, Wiz of Oz, The Bachelors Live, Sesame Street Live, and Passively Aggressive.
