Spring Training - Atlanta Braves at Pittsburgh Pirates
LECOM Park is a famous baseball field located in Bradenton, Florida. The venue was officially inaugurated for the public in 1923 with an initial construction cost of $2,000. The field was formerly known as McKechnie Field (1962–2017), Braves Field (1948–1961), Ninth Street Park (1927–1947), and City Park (1923–1926). It is currently under the ownership of the City of Bradenton and operated by the owners and Pittsburgh Pirates. The baseball field has a seating capacity of 8,500, which was 2,000 originally. The venue underwent major renovations in 1993 and 2003.
LECOM Park is the spring training home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was given the current name after signing a 15-year naming rights deal with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. There is a long list of Baseball Hall of Fame members who have played at the baseball field. Some famous ones are Willie Stargell, Bill Mazeroski, Wade Boggs, Roy Halladay, Jack Morris, Ivan Rodriguez, Babe Ruth, Mike Schmidt, and Ted Williams. The stadium serves as the home field to the Pittsburgh Pirates (NL) and Bradenton Marauders (Low-A Southeast). A few past tenants are Bradenton Explorers (SPBA) (1989–1990), Boston Bees (NL) (1938–1940), Boston Red Sox (AL) (1928–1929), St. Louis Cardinals (NL) (1923–1924), and some more.
LECOM Park hosts minor league baseball games for the Pirates' Low-A club and the Bradenton Marauders. The venue is said to be the oldest stadium which is still used for spring training. It is the second-oldest in the Florida State League and the third oldest currently used by a major league team.
