It is nicknamed as The Big House. Jim Norick State Fair arena was a formal name given at its opening, which was named after the city mayor of that time. The arena is located at Gordon Cooper Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The venue opened to the general public in the year 1965. It has a seating capacity of 10,944. The State Fair Arena is under the ownership of the City of Oklahoma City and is operated by Oklahoma State Fair Park. The Oklahoma State Fair Arena is the third largest city-owned multi-purpose arena.
The Oklahoma State Fair Arena served as a home to the Oklahoma City Blazers of the CHL from 1965 to 1972. The arena hosts a variety of events, which include equine events, horse shows, rodeos, ice shows, sporting events, conventions, and concerts. On October 19, 1973, Grateful Dead’s performance was recorded at the venue. Sam Smith played his In the Lonely Hour Tour in 2015, which was his first concert in Oklahoma City. The State High School Basketball playoffs were also held in the arena.
