Mackay Stadium is an outdoor athletic stadium located in Reno, Nevada. The stadium is situated at the University of Nevada, Reno, serving as the home field for the university's football and women's soccer teams. On June 11, 1964, the stadium broke ground and opened for the public on October 1, 1966. The total construction cost was $11.5 million, designed by Worth Group Architects. Mackay stadium has a seating capacity of 27,000 and is owned and operated by the University of Nevada, Reno.
Mackay Stadium was named after the Mackay family, who is the university's benefactor by John Mackay and Clarence. In 2003, permanent lighting was installed at the stadium, which allowed for night games. The playing surface of the venue was named Chris Ault Field in 2013, in honor of the College Football Hall of Famer, the former Wolf Pack head coach, and the creator of the Pistol offense in 2004. For the 2016 season, a proposal was passed by the Nevada Board of Regents (NSHE) for seating upgrades of the stadium.
In 1991, the Wolf Pack football single–season set an attendance record with 180,457 fans over nine home games. The third football season took place in 2014, where approximately 20,000 fans attended every home game.
