Michigan International Speedway (MIS) is a speedway that is located in Brooklyn, Michigan. It is a moderate-banked D-shaped two-mile speedway located off U.S. Highway 12. The speedway broke ground on September 28, 1967, and it officially opened for the public on October 13, 1968. The total construction cost for the venue was between $4–6 million. The speedway is designed by the famous architect Charles Moneypenny with a seating capacity of the speedway is 56,000–137,243.
MIS is owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation and was formerly named Michigan Speedway (1996–2000). MIS is one of the fastest tracks in NASCAR due to the wide and long straightaways and sweeping corners. Some of the former owners of the speedway are Roger Penske and Thomas W Itin.
Some notable events at the Michigan International Speedway include the Michigan High School Athletic Association cross country finals, the annual Make-A-Wish Bicycle Tour, the Formula SAE competition, and the NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400, NASCAR Xfinity Series LTi Printing 250, and ARCA Menards Series VizCom 200.
