Madds Buckley
The Midland Theatre is a famous performance hall located in Newark, Ohio. The venue was built in 1928, and it officially opened for the public on December 20, 1928. It has a seating capacity of approximately 1,800. The theatre is under the ownership of The Longaberger Company and is operated by the same. The Midland Theatre has been used as a performance venue for live music and many other performing arts events since 2000. After its original opening, the venue served the community of Newark, Ohio, as a movie theater for almost 50 years. It was closed in 1978 and briefly reopened as a pornography theater. Again, the venue was closed due to some public outcry.
In 1992, the Midland Theatre was bought by Dave Longaberger and The Longaberger Company. It underwent a major renovation worth $8.5 million and opened again in 2000, after eight long years. Soon Longaberger entrusted the property to a local volunteer, a non-profit organization named The Newark Midland Theatre Association. Ohio Arts Council also supports the performance hall. Currently, the theatre hosts a wide variety of musical performances by some of the best-known national performers annually.
