Guthrie Theater - Wurtele Thrust Stage is a well-known center of production, education, performance, and professional training in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The venue officially opened in 1963 with Jean Nouvel as the architect.
Guthrie Theater consists of three signature auditoriums: Wurtele Thrust Stage, McGuire Proscenium Stage, and Dowling Studio. The Wurtele Thrust Stage has a seating capacity of 1,100, while the other two have a seating capacity of approximately 700 and 200, respectively.
Some of the past alternate stages of the Guthrie Theater are Crawford Livingston Theater (1968–1969), The Other Place (1968–1971), Guthrie 2 (1976–1979), and Guthrie Lab (1988–2005). Past artistic directors of the venue include Tyrone Guthrie (1963–1966), Michael Langham (1971–1977), Garland Wright (1986–1995), and Joe Dowling (1995–2015), with the current director of the theater being Joseph Haj (2015–present).
