Goodman Theatre is the oldest and largest theatre located at 170 N Dearborn Street Chicago, Illinois. It was open to the general public on October 20, 1925, with a seating capacity of approximately 850 people. KPMB Architects designed the architecture of the venue. It features a proscenium stage with both balcony and floor seating. The theatre company received the Regional Theatre Tony Award in 1992. The venue has also won many Joseph Jefferson awards. It also has won international awards renown for the quality of productions, the excellence of its several community and educational programs, and the diversity and depth of artistic leadership.
Goodman Theatre hosts events such as conferences, lectures, large-scale presentations, concerts, and others. Three of Kenneth Sawyer Goodman's plays were hosted at the opening ceremony of the theatre named The Green Scarf, Back of the Yards, and The Game of Chess. Since the 1970s, it has presented A Christmas Carol annually in December. Other productions that have been hosted in the theatre include; The Light in the Piazza, A House Not Meant to Stand, Hay Fever, Born Yesterday, Sunday in the Park with George, Dancing at Lughnasa, Guys and Dolls, Talley's Folly, Lady Windermere's Fan, You Can't Take It with You, The Little Foxes, Dinner with Friends, Hollywood Arms, and Rabbit Hole. The Forest – a Drama in Four Acts by John Galsworthy took place at the theater in October 1925.
