Lindsey Nelson Stadium is a baseball stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. The venue broke ground in 1993 and opened for the public in the same year. The Stadium has a seating capacity of 4,283 and serves as the home field to the Volunteers college baseball team of the University of Tennessee. The facility is given its current name in honor of Baseball Hall of Fame announcer Lindsey Nelson. He founded the Vol Radio Network and attended the university. The Volunteers ranked 38th in attendance, averaging 1,846 per home game among Division I baseball programs in 2013.
Before the 2019 season, Lindsey Nelson Stadium underwent a major renovation by Carolina Green. It happened to convert the playing surface to field turf from original natural grass. This new surface allowed the Stadium to host more tournaments. Along with the surface conversion, some other renovations were also done to the outfield wall, bullpens, and batting cages by increasing their size. In 2006, another master plan was unveiled by the University of Tennessee to transform Lindsey Nelson Stadium into a premier baseball facility. According to them, the transformation enables the Vols to compete at a championship level.
Some of the other notable improvements done to the Stadium include a new club area, weight room, team locker room, and training room. Also, the construction of 370 MVP Field Level seats, the visiting team locker room, and a brick facade on the field interior were major improvements.
