The Elliott Hall of Music is a theater in West Lafayette, Indiana. The theater is situated on the Purdue University campus and has a reserved seating capacity of 6,005. The venue is an indoor theater and under the ownership of Purdue University. The theater broke ground on October 24, 1938, and two years later, on May 3, 1940, the venue officially opened for the public. The hall was designed by Walter Scholer, although architect J. Andre Fouilhoux assisted by consulting.
The Elliott Hall of Music was named after the President of Purdue University, Edward C. Elliott (1874–1960), who served from 1922 to 1945. Also, the stage of the venue is one of the largest in the nation. Roughly, it is the same as the Dolby Theatre’s stage in Hollywood, California.
On May 3-4, 1940, the Elliott Hall of Music was dedicated as the “Purdue Hall of Music.” It was renamed in honor of Elliott in 1958. The theater is connected to Hovde Hall, Purdue University’s administration building, which allows formal entry usage. The building contains the Purdue All-American Marching Band offices, the WBAA studio, Purdue Bands and Orchestras, and Hall of Music Productions. It also includes the department that provides box office services for the Hall of Music and faculty management.
