Anchorage Wolverines at Kenai River Brown Bears
The George M. Sullivan Arena is the largest entertainment venue located at 1600 Gambell Street, Anchorage, Alaska. Currently, it serves as home to the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves hockey team of the WCHA and Alaska Fighting Championship mixed martial arts events. It was also the former home to a professional ice hockey team, the ECHL Alaska Aces in the past years. The arena opened to the public on February 8, 1983, with a construction cost of around $25 million. It has a seating capacity of approximately 7,987 for basketball, 6,290 for ice hockey, and 8,935 for boxing/wrestling while up to 8,751 for concerts. It is owned by the Municipality of Anchorage and managed by SMG. The architecture of the arena was designed by The Luckman Partnership Inc. and Harold Wirum & Associates. It underwent renovations in 2015.
Sullivan Arena hosts several events year-round, including trade shows, sports events, concerts, and many more. It has hosted the 1989 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Famous musicians and bands that have played at the venue are Johnny Cash, The Beach Boys, Eric Clapton, Bon Jovi, Steve Miller Band, James Brown, Jimmy Buffett Bon Jovi, Filter, Coolio, Aerosmith, Stone Temple Pilots, Green Day, No Doubt, Blink-182, Alaska's 36 Crazyfists in '15 for the Vans Warped Tour, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elton John, and Luke Bryan.
