Juan Diego Florez
The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is a hall located in the Los Angeles Music Center, Los Angeles, California. It is one of the three largest performing arts centers in the US and several Los Angeles Music Center halls. Some of the other halls include Ahmanson Theatre, Mark Taper Forum, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. Los Angeles Music Center owns the pavilion built between 1962–1964 and opened for the public on September 27, 1964. It serves as a home venue to Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center and the Los Angeles Opera.
From 1969-1987, 1990, 1992-1994, 1996, and 1999, the annual Academy Awards by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences were held in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The hall has a seating capacity of 3,156, which is spread over four tiers. It is named in Dorothy Buffum Chandler’s honor, who made great efforts to build a suitable home for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Architect Welton Becket designed the building of the pavilion.
