John Mulaney Savannah Civic Center - Johnny Mercer Theatre Savannah

The Savannah Civic Center is a multi-purpose center located in Savannah Historic District, at 301 W Oglethorpe Ave, Savannah. The Center was built and opened to the general public in the year 1974 with a construction cost of $8 million. The venue has four components named; the Martin Luther King Arena, Johnny Mercer Theatre, West and East Promenades, and the Civic Center Grand Ballroom. The arena has a seating capacity of 7,200. The Center is owned and operated by the City of Savannah. The venue was a former home to Savannah Bees Basketball team, the Continental Basketball Association’s Savannah Spirit’s Basketball team, and the Savannah Rug Ratz soccer team.

Various events are held at the Center like concerts, conventions, exhibits, high school and college graduations, trade shows, theatre, ballet, and comedy shows. The venue also conducted event planning, a national A/V company, and production management. Throughout the year, the arena hosts approximate 900 events including the Savannah Tire Hockey Classic. Also, various meetings were held in the building’s meeting wing. The Big South Conference’s men’s basketball tournament was held at the Center through 1986-87. Many popular artists around the world also performed at the Center.
