Jack Singer Concert Hall at Arts Commons - Calgary AB
It Takes Two: A Symphonic Collaboration
Jack Singer was a Canadian philanthropist, real estate developer, and financier. He owned numerous properties across the United States and Canada, but one of the most famous acquisitions named after him is the impressive and world-class Jack Singer Hall. The venue is located in Calgary in the Art Commons and is a multi-purpose venue arts center.
Jack Singer Concert Hall was funded by his sons, contributing around $1.5 million to renovate and rebuild the venue. The funds were provided by the late Stephen Singer and Alan Singer. The concert hall opened to the public in 1985 and is located at the Arts Commons. This performing arts complex occupies approximately 10 acres in downtown Calgary with a seating capacity of 1,800.
The Jack Singer Concert Hall is described as one of the most acoustically acclaimed and beautiful venues in North America. The adjustable acoustic system includes a canopy and clad in laminated spruce wood, designed by Artec consultants. In 2021, the Jack Singer Concert Hall became home to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, TD Jazz, and BD&P World Music. Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra employs 65 full-time musicians and the 6,040-pipe Carthy Organ.
