Great Lakes Loons at West Michigan Whitecaps
LMCU Ballpark, formerly Fifth Third Bank Stadium, is a venue located north of Grand Rapids in Comstock Park, Michigan. The stadium broke ground in May 1993 and opened for the public on April 12, 1994, done by Rossetti Architects. At the time of its opening, the stadium was known as Rossetti Architects. The venue now serves as a home field to a minor league baseball team, the West Michigan Whitecaps, and many other sporting events. The stadium's original seating capacity, 5,701, is now expanded to 8,942 (2018–present). The venue is owned and operated by West Michigan Whitecaps Corp.
In one of the episodes of Man v. Food, the ballpark's Fifth Third Burger was featured. On January 3, 2014, a fire damaged some of the venue's first base sides but could re-open in time to host the Whitecaps for the season 2014. The entire stadium was built with private funds, and no taxpayer dollars were used in the construction. The stadium is also used for other events, including motorsports and concerts, in addition to baseball. It is well-known for hosting a large display of Christmas lights. The stadium also hosted an international friendly soccer game between Aurora United FC of Ontario and Grand Rapids FC on October 8, 2016.
