The local Lions Club initiated the festival, a local philanthropy club highly dedicated to bettering the community. After many attempts in the past 20 years to promote the local strawberry crop, the event finally came into existence. The lions club started in 1929 and worked to plan this event honoring strawberries, the champion of the area's agricultural products. Florida Strawberry Festival lasts 11 days and successfully generates an attendance of approximately half a million patrons from all over the globe.
