Fordham Rams at Saint Josephs Hawks Mens Basketball
The Michael J. Hagan Arena is SJU's home court for Men's and Women's basketball located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was formerly known as Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse (1949–2009). It officially opened for the public on November 11, 1949. The arena has a seating capacity of 4,200 and a multi-surface. It is under the ownership of Saint Joseph's University and operated by the same. The total construction cost of the building was $25 million and was designed by Burt, Hill Architects. The Michael J. Hagan Arena serves as a home field to the Philadelphia Freedoms (WTT) since 2017. The venue underwent some major renovations in 2009.
The 2009 renovation added a concourse, study rooms, basketball center, a Hall of Fame room, larger offices and locker rooms, and practice facilities to the arena. During this renovation, the home game of the Saint Joseph's Hawks men's basketball team was played at the Palestra on the University of Pennsylvania's campus. On the other hand, the women played their home game at the campus of Philadelphia University.
The Michael J. Hagan Arena was named after Michael Hagan, a Washington Crossing resident and graduate of Saint Joseph's who donated $10 million for the project. The venue also includes the Ramsay Basketball Center, which was named after legendary coach Jack Ramsay. The first game at Michael J. Hagan was a win against Drexel University. Some of the other concerts and performers who performed at the arena include Keri Hilson, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Four Seasons, Mac Miller, and Lupe Fiasco.
