Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts is a performing arts center that began in the 1960s. The Hammons Hall is located in Springfield, Missouri, on the campus of Missouri State University. The Hall regularly attracts patrons from central and southern Missouri, Oklahoma, eastern Kansas, and northern Kansas. The venue has a seating capacity of 2,264 with an orchestra pit, crew and chorus dressing room, spacious backstage facilities, multi-level boxes, public and private reception areas, expensive multi-level foyer-style lobby, and on-site computerized box office.
The purpose of the building was to conceive, construct, and create a state-of-the-art venue that would serve Springfield’s needs and surroundings. The Hall is named after the wife of a very well-known developer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, John Q. Hammons. The names were honored in recognition of their major donation to the capital campaign for the venue. The Hammons Hall saw its gala opening in October 1992. The venue has met and exceeded the art enthusiasts’ expectations several times.
