Fox Theater Pomona - Pomona CA
Dayseeker
The Fox Theater Pomona is a restored Art Deco movie palace in Pomona, Los Angeles County. The venue takes us back to Hollywood's golden age with the architecture by C.A. Balch. The palace is a state-of-the-art masterpiece for cinema, concerts, parties, and performances in its current era. The Fox Theater Pomona is a flagship attraction of the Pomona Arts Colony with nightclubs, lofts, restaurants, and a vibrant neighborhood of galleries.
For several years, the Fox Theater Pomona operated as a first-run theater and faced a decline in the early 1970s. The venue only survived a few years, showing Spanish language movies, and soon closed in 1977. The theatre reopened in 1998 and began serving as a favorite spot for live music events and raves. Unfortunately, after several incidents took place at the venue, the city withdrew the operator's permit.
A non-profit Pomona Fox Corporation was founded in 2002 to consider the preservation and usage of the theatre. However, the authorities failed to secure enough funding for their restoration efforts; hence, the theatre was sold to the Tessier family, who remains the current owners today. The family spent millions of dollars restoring the building to make it a beautifully revamped venue for music, arts, and film. On May 21, 2009, the Fox Theater Pomona reopened with a capacity of approximately 2,000. Since then, the Fox Theater has successfully hosted many nationally touring music acts and cultural events.
