Metropolitan Theatre is a historic theater building located in Morgantown, West Virginia. The venue was constructed in 1924, and it officially opened for the public on July 24, 1924. It took two-and-a-half years after construction began for the theatre to open. Charles W. Bates designs the architecture of the building in a Classical Revival architectural style. The theatre building consists of a single-floor auditorium along with a balcony. It also features two storefronts on the ground floor and a pool room in the theatre’s basement.
Metropolitan Theatre is best known for providing a home for some of the best live entertainments in the city. The venue was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Listed in 1996, the theatre is located in the Downtown Morgantown Historic District. It is currently known as a newly restored site stated as “West Virginia’s most wonderful playhouse.” A theatre in downtown Morgantown shows plays, films, and endless entertainment in a historic building. Metropolitan Theatre has a seating capacity of 1,300. The venue is praised for its state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, along with a portable screen meant for movies.
