The L. Stockwell Jadwin Gymnasium, also known as Jadwin Gymnasium, is a multi-purpose arena located at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. The arena opened for the public in 1969, serving as home to the Princeton Tigers’ college basketball teams. Leander Stockwell Jadwin’s mother gave $27 million to the university in her son’s name in 1965. Jadwin had been the track team captain, and he died just a few months after completing his graduation during an automobile accident. The school then decided to use $6.5 million to build the gymnasium that had just been started.
Jadwin Gymnasium has 250,000 square feet of floor space that’s cumulatively on five levels for multiple sports. The gymnasium is notable for its unique roof that consists of three interlocking shells. The venue has a total seating capacity of 6,854. Jadwin Gymnasium has hosted the first round of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament in 1970 and 1972. The venue has been the ECAC Metro Region Tournament site organized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference in 1976.
Jadwin Gymnasium also has The Jadwin Jungle, the official basketball booster group, and the student cheering section. It was formed for the Princeton Tigers basketball teams.
