The Marriott Center is a multi-purpose arena located in Provo, Utah. The arena is exactly situated on the campus of Brigham Young University. It opened to the public in 1971. The venue has a seating capacity of 22,700. It is under the ownership of Brigham Young University and operated by the same. The arena serves as the home field to BYU men's and women's basketball teams. The Marriott Center is the largest basketball arena in the West Coast Conference and among the largest on-campus basketball arenas in the country. The arena is also used for weekly devotionals and forums apart from basketball.
The Marriott Center was given its current name to honor J. Willard Marriott, the Marriott Corporation founder. Upon its inauguration, the venue passed the University of Minnesota's Williams Arena as the largest college basketball arena in the country. The arena hosted the West Regionals of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in 1972, 1977, 1979, and 1982. In 1988, it hosted the Western Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament as well. The venue set an NCAA highest attendance record in 1999 for a men's volleyball match with 14,156 spectators.
The Marriott Center underwent a renovation in April 2012. It replaced lower bench seating with prime chair seating, installed the new sound system, and upgraded the men's and women's locker rooms. Also, new video boards for the Marriott Center and the Marriott Center Annex building were installed.
