Bulls on the Beach - Thursday
Flora-Bama is a honky-tonk, oyster bar, Coast cultural landmark, and a beach bar located in Perdido Key, Florida. The venue is touted as being the “Last Great Roadhouse” of the nation. The Flora-Bama took its name from its location being on the Florida-Alabama borderline. The venue broke ground in 1964, and initially, its lounge was practically the only business in the area. The venue was purchased by Joe Gilchrist and Pat McClellan in 1978.
At Flora-Bama, you may find a millionaire sitting very next to a biker due to the unique make-up of bar patrons offering immense appeal and attraction. Tourists easily mingle with locals at the Flora-Bama. The venue first gained national attention when it was referred to as “The best watering hole in the country” by former Oakland Raiders and Alabama quarterback and NFL MVP Kenny Stabler.
The Flora-Bama is recognized as the number 1 beach bar across the globe for the past 50 years. It is listed as one of the top venues by Playboy Magazine, Delta Sky Magazine, Men’s Journal, Maxim Magazine, USA Today, CNN, Yahoo Travel, Fox News, and The Huffington Post. Hurricane Ivan directly hit the Flora-Bama in September 2004, causing catastrophic damage to the site, but the reconstruction began in 2010.
