The Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre is a Broadway venue that is located in New York. The venue was previously known as the Plymouth Theatre and has a seating capacity of 1,080. The theatre is under the ownership of The Shubert Organization after officially opening in 1918. Herbert J. Krapp did the building's architecture, which was designed to resemble the neighboring Shubert and Booth theatres. The theatre was given this current name in 2005 to honor Gerald Schoenfeld, the Shubert Organization chairman.
A comedy with William Gillette and Estelle Winwood, entitled A Successful Calamity, was the theatre's premiere production. A box office record was reached at the theatre by the limited engagement drama named A Steady Rain. It starred Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman. The production successfully grossed $1,292,210 over eight performances on December 6, 2009. Eventually, this record was surpassed on three different occasions. The 2014 production exceeded it, It's Only a Play, grossing $1,424,039 over eight performances on December 7, 2014.
