The current name was given to the stadium in the year 2005 by Gillette and the Patriots. The architecture of the stadium was designed by HOK Sport (now Populous). The site is accessible via rail during concerts and Patriots games. It was once known as the smallest stadium of NFL's.
The very first official event that took place at this venue was a New England Revolution soccer game on May 11, 2002.
